Can diet coke really make you fat?

it has no calories and no fat, will it still cause me to be over weight? I drink about 9 cans a day.- why will this make me fat?
Answer:
Diet coke has no calories but studies have shown two theories to why it can make you gain weight:1. Diet coke increases the insulin levels in your blood, therefore causing your metabolism to slow down so your body doesn't burn fat as efficiently as it would normally.2. Some studies have shown that diet coke causes your body to become more hungry and crave more food.Hope the info helps!
NINE cans of soda a day? Not only will you gain weight, but I'm surprised that you teeth haven't rotted and fell out yet! Try drinking 9 glasses of water a day instead!
Its the carbonation in it.Its ok to drink it once in a while.I think 9 cans a day is to much. You will gain weight even if its diet.
look it up on google search
Well, if there are no Calories then you can't get fat, but keep in mind that it does have sodium and is high in Acid. It will eventually do damage to your stomach. Better to drink water.Harry

I drink diet coke, and I don't experience any weight gain.
I think perhaps if when you drink the diet coke, that you might
be snacking on high calorie treats or not being very active.I think diet coke is an excellent part of my daily weight control and wouldn't give it up. Just make sure you eat sensibly and get regular exercise and keep driniking that diet coke!Hmm...time for me to get a diet coke now!
Not just that, it can get you brain damage. It's not just that it has no calories or fat, it just depends on so many factors, especially when you're putting in 9 cans of it a day in your body."One version of Diet Coke (and majority of beverages using artificial sweeteners) relies on Aspartame, which has been blamed by some scientists and medical professionals for possibly causing serious illnesses (such as brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma) when consumed in large quantities."-wiki
Other people's answers are right, diet coke really doesn't do your health any good!! Also, yes, personally I think while it probably doesn't make you gain weight, I think it can hinder weight loss. Apparently the latest studies are showing that artificial sweeteners can trigger the same insulin process in the body that real sugars do. For years diabetics have been drinking low-cal drinks etc and now they show that the brain does respond to the artificial sweetener in exactly the same way and increases the body's insulin levels.
Therefore, I think basically these drinks are just not good news for anyone, if your body is imagining they are sugar (even though they are not), it can't be good for weight loss.
If you can, drink water - or those new flavoured waters at least.it's hard to kick the diet coke habit but it's probably worth a try!
If you are on Atkins or a carb diet the non sugar sweetener in diet coke and other diet drinks is the problem. Even though it is suppose to be sugar free the sweetener contain some sugar alcohol and it is causing you to fall out of ketosis(?)by exceeding the maximum amount of sugars you can have a day causing you to gain weight.
