Can the sauna help you lose weight?

I'm starting a new diet and exercise plan to lose about 5-10 pounds. I've heard that when you use the sauna, you lose water weight, and gain it back when you drink fluids. However, if you were to use the sauna a few times a week for 15-30 minutes, could it help me lose the weight in the long run?
Answer:
Of course an increase in body temperature can help burn calories, but the sauna itself only helps you sweat out water weight. I think if you wanted to use the heat benefit, your best bet would be after exercise because your metabolism is already sped up and the temperature increase would possibly speed it up a little more. If you do this though, make sure to stay WELL HYDRATED. That is essential. If you don't stay hydrated, your metabolism will actually slow down and you could suffer from overheating.
No."Losing weight" is not the issue here, you're trying to lose fat. Sweating it out in a sauna all the time won't do anything to shift your fat reserves, and getting severely dehydrated is VERY dangerous. You're just gonna have to bite the bullet and go for the "healthy eating and more exercise" route.
you're right the only weight you lost is water weight. it will never help you burn the kind of calories you will need to burn if you want to see a 5-10lb loss. so don't waste your time in the sauna. the better way to lose water weight is to check all the food you eat for mg of sodium. the daily reccomended dose is 2300mg so make sure you don't exceed this. excess sodium in the body makes your body retain water it doesn't really need. you should NOT limit your water intake though. increase it to 2 Liters a day if you can.
It is correct that you only lose your water weight in sauna. Using sauna frequently will keep the water weight off as long as you continue using it. However, it has no permanent effect and does not help losing fat.
Yes it will help you lose weight, however as you already mentioned, it is all water weight. Also, it can be very unsafe. You must watch for signs of dehydration. It is a form of weight loss that is illegal in high school and college wrestling because of the chance of dehydration related death. There is also no relevance between your metabolism and the sauna. Only healthy eating and strict exercise will speed up your metabolism safely.
No, it won't. The only way to control your weight is to control what you put in your mouth. Plain and simple. That means to cut down on sweets, junk food, and sodas...
